Greece

Greece is located on the Balkan Peninsula, east of the southern Europe. It has extensive coastlines and many islands. Greece is famous for its ancient culture, which had a considerable influence on Western society.

Athens

Athens, the capital of Greece, was named after Athena, the goddess of wisdom. This center of ancient Greek culture is full of beautiful archaeological treasures and classical mythology. From the Acropolis Hill with its crown jewel, the 2500-year-old Parthenon, to Kerameikos, the oldest cemetery in the city you can enjoy the history of the ancient Greece. Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki is the second largest city in Greece and is also known as Salonica. This special city has countless Byzantine churches, Roman ruins and interesting museums. Thessaloniki can compete with Athens in all areas: the shopping facilities are great; the atmosphere is just as lively, and the cultural heritage is everywhere. Thessaloniki was the second largest city of the Byzantine Empire as well. The White Tower from the 15th century is, although it is not white at all, the most famous landmark of the city.

The Peloponnese

Many of the most famous ancient sites of Greece are located in the Peloponnese. You can enjoy sites like the classical temples in Corinth, Nemea and Olympia as well as theatres of Argos and Epidauros (which are still in use today). The one of the country's most beautiful cities is Nafplio, with its graceful Venetian villas, lush bougainvilleas and the lively bustle right on the waterfront takes every visitor's heart. The Peloponnese is of rugged beauty. In spring, wildflowers form a colorful carpet and small villages can be found in the landscape.

Northern Greece

Magnificent mountains, dense forests, sparkling lakes and archaeological sites: the north of Greece is overwhelming. It is very different from the famous Greek islands. The Zagoria region, where deep gorges, raging rivers and dark forests dominate the landscape or Metéora monasteries from the 14th century, built on steep cliffs, belong to the most extraordinary sights of the country. Also, here you can visit Mount Olympus, god’s realm, the highest mountain range in Greece.

The Greek Islands

When you think of Greece, you probably think of the beautiful islands first. There are about 1400, and most of them have breathtaking beaches and picturesque white villages. Most of the islands have ferry connections, but these are limited in winter. The largest island is Crete. It has a fascinating landscape and a unique cultural identity, which is consistently protected from mass tourism. Mykonos is also one of the most famous islands because of its idyllic beaches and streets lined with white houses.
